A Very Personal Post

On life. On Love. On Letting Go.

I have always considered myself to be a person that rolls really well with the punches. I am the type of girl that is scared to death of heights but has gone cliff diving twice. Both times I had no idea I was going to jump. Strike that. I would have bet my life savings that I would NOT jump. But then in an instant I would feel my legs moving and see the edge of the cliff coming closer and closer and then....... Free Fall!

I don't have a death wish, I have a life wish.

I want to make sure I experience life not just live it. I want to make sure that I continue to live without regrets. This is not a life for the the faint of heart. I have been banged up, knocked down, and worn out from living this kind of life, but I don't regret it. I don't regret anything that has happened to me, anything that I have chosen. I don't regret a single experience (even the painful ones). I don't regret making friends, losing friends, or dating that one guy because I have faith.

I believe it all happens for a reason. I know that I have learned just as much from the bad as the good in my life, so how can I regret any of it. I am happy with the way things have gone thus far. I have an amazing husband who is my strong shoulder, my biggest champion, and the only person that I will tell all of my secrets to. I have a career that I was terrified to try and still inspires me everyday. I have so many things I am proud of, and thankful for in my life.

For those of you that are friends with me on Facebook, you may have noticed a few posts that were, shall I say, less than happy. You may have also noticed I am not really on Facebook or the blog at all recently. This overly talkative person has a tendency to become nearly mute about stressful things going on in her life.

I am quite a spontaneous person. So you would think I could handle uncertainty. You would be wrong. Tell me the sky is falling, and I would do fine because there is only one outcome. Tell me the sky might fall this month, but you're not sure and I am paralyzed in fear. I will try desperately to figure out what the right course of action to take is. I will second guess. I will make myself miserable.

So internet, the sky is falling....maybe.

Rob and I have been trying to adopt for a while now. The process is proving difficult. It seems that our house and my business are a problem. "What?!?", you say, shocked like I was. After all we have, in my humble opinion, a super cute, totally up-dated, lovely home. It turns out that although our house is plenty big enough for a family it is not big enough for a foster family and a business. We have had two potential placements fall threw after many days going back and forth about whether it would work. Each day was exhausting, spent waiting for phone calls, trying unsuccessfully not to get our hopes up.

So Rob and I have decided to put our house on the market, which means we need your help. We will be creating a blog post (click here) full of pictures that we would love for you all to share on Facebook, email, and tweet to everyone and anyone you know. You just never know who our house might be perfect for. And wouldn't you feel bad for keeping this info all to yourself! We appreciate your help so much because to us it is so much more that just trying to move. We would love for future blog posts to include a little person or two.

So much of our life right now is up in the air. Out of our control. That is when I have to remind myself why I chose this "living life" thing. We could try to have our own child, it might be easier. But then I wouldn't get to experience all of the wonderful little moments adoption will bring. I won't get to see a little person nervously walk into their bedroom for the first time and later hear them play with their toys when they think we are asleep. I won't get to hear someone call me mom for the first time by choice, because that is who I am to them even if not by birth. So I have faith that all of these tribulations that we seem to be facing day to day are for a reason.

We let go.

We cannot control our lives even if we have the best laid plans, we can only make the best of each day. Adoption and selling a home are a lot like cliff diving. There is no guarantee we won't get hurt or that things will go as planned. But Rob and I have jumped with some fear and alot of faith into both.

Tiffany and Jacob

A Milwaukee Wedding

On a cloudy and sunny day Rob and I eagerly drove to the War Memorial... it was Tiffany and Jacob's wedding day! It was not the first time we photographed this great couple during a wedding, if fact we met them just last year at Tiffany's sister's wedding. So when they contacted us about photographing their wedding this year we knew we were going to have a great time! Tiffany is a stylist so often we would email back and forth about theme and color, we would send example photos of centerpieces and accessories! I could wait to see what her day would look like because we already knew it was going to be a blast!

We were not let down!

Tiffany and Jacob never stopped smiling, laughing and stealing little touches the entire day! They have such an ease with each other and everyone they speak to, you would hardly know that some people consider a wedding day kind of stressful! I believe they both were too excited to let a single thing stress them out, after all they have each other.

We hope your life together is much like your wedding day. Sunny. Surrounded by loved ones. Whispering sweet things to each other. And forever by each others side to relish the great days and weather the trying ones.

Stacy and Adrian

A Racine Wedding

Two weeks before every wedding I chat with each of my brides one last time. To make sure our timeline is still correct, to calm fears and sometimes just to be a person to nervously chat with. One thing I hear nearly every time is, "I don't want to cry!" Personally, I love seeing tears on a wedding day, they are the best kind, the kind where your cup runnith over! A person can be so excited, so filled with joy that apart from screaming, you cry.

I get it.... everyone feels they are an ugly crier.... I do too. But, all I feel when I see at scrunched up face is that over bursting feeling in my own chest, sometimes I cry too. I cry because I know love too, and I am so excited to be the witness of so many peoples "Ugly" moments.

Stacy and Adrian shared many tears on their 1st wedding day. Yep, these two love birds are saying, "I Do", again next week in Australia in front of all of Adrian's friends and family. Their first wedding was a beautifully simple wedding shared with Stacy's friends and family. Many of the guests had made something for the wedding, sang during the ceremony, played and instrument, or walked their daughter down the isle. With so many close people in attendance you can understand why there are so many emotional moments and images.

Wendy and Mike

A Milwaukee Roof Top Wedding

When you find the one that makes you happiest in all of the world, what location would seem grand enough to say heart felt vows to each other?

A park?

A shore line?

The roof-top of Hotel Metro?

PERFECT!

Wendy and Mike planned their wedding to be an intimate affair with the closest family and friends to witness their union. Mike's daughter started the ceremony by being the first person to walk toward her waiting father. Wendy's son held her hand as they together passed by friends and family before he gave her away to Mike. Guests shed tears, beamed with excitement, and wished on stones for this families eternal happiness.

Once they were officially man and wife the really party began. Perfectly Planned by Amanda of Tailored Engagements even the smallest detail was thoughtfully executed! Guests enjoyed the choice between cupcakes and cheese cake, dancing or watching the game! They wrote love notes for the couple to enjoy at a later date. They relaxed by candle light and city glow at the roof top lounge. Every detail ensured the guests knew they were apart of something special and Wendy and Mike had a day they will never forget!

A Shorewood Wedding

Rob and I were in the church taking detail photos when I heard it. The wonderful sound of Cathy's laughter. It is very sing-song-y in nature and I can't help but smile every time I hear it. The bride had arrived. She had all of her best girl friends with her, doing nails, talking girl-talk and helping her prepare for her big day.

They guys room wasn't much different, they played billiards, video games and they too had heart to heart chats. Everyone surrounding them as they prepared we so excited to see these two become man and wife and they were truly there to support them in any and every way.

I am sure they felt this love and support many times on their wedding day. Many times while they dated. And they will many times throughout their marriage. They are just the people you would suspect would have this kind of support because it is the kind they give to others.

Terra and Andrew

A Neenah Wedding

Terra and Andrew are the kind of easy going people you just want to have a drink with and chat for hours with about nothing. He loves sports and she loves watching them with him. She loves shoes, especially hot pink ones, and he loves her sense of style. It is how they constantly support each other on even the littlest things that make you instantly aware of how strong their relationship is.

One their wedding day it was no different. Were they nervous? A little bit.

Where they nervous to get married? Nope.

To see each other? Nope.

To stand up in front of a packed church and have all eyes on them?

Ding Ding Ding!

Once they did see each other as they came down the isle their support for each other was immediate. It was like their eyes both said, " Don't worry you will be next to me soon!" They Hugged and Kissed when they met up but mostly they held hands threw the service. They held hands down the isle. They held hands when they were alone as man and wife.

These are the types of things I notice in a strong couple who's marriage will last a lifetime!

Gretchen and Travis

A Milwaukee Wedding

What could be more romantic than two musicians meeting, making music together, falling in love, and vowing to love each other until death do they part... ummm...Nothing!

Both Gretchen and Travis are this amazing blend of super sweet and quiet and then, incredibly witty and outgoing! I find myself internally saying, "Awww" half of the time and laughing out loud around them they other half!

They had a beautiful wedding on a gorgeous day surrounded by friends, family and students! After their vows they were mingling with guest while about 20 of their string students played for them on the church lawn. They filled their day with little moments just for them, just so they could spend time with each other. Whether they we sneaking around the corner of the church or watching the sun set from the Marcus Center balcony, they were always holding hands, locking lips, and smiling at one another!

Leah and Peter

A Milwaukee Wedding

When we arrived to Leah and Peter's wedding both the bride and groom were surrounded by their best friends. Both were quietly excited as their "dream day" began to unfold in to reality all around them. Details were all in place and every little space had a touch of their spirit!

Leah had her sister help her dress into her amazing gown, she sneaked smiles every time she looked back at her ladies in waiting. Each of them reflecting smiles back at her as they watched their friend turn into a bride!

Now the moment was upon us.... Time to see Peter during their at first sight! With a deep breath and folded hands she made her way to see her groom. The reaction was sweet perfection! Peter gasped. Leah blushed. Friends and Family gave them some alone time to whisper, hold hands and create sweet memories.

From that moment smiles never left their faces!

The day became better and better with each passing moment shared with loved-ones and each other!

Hallie and Bobby

A Milwaukee Wedding

I love it when I meet a bride and groom and they seem like old friends. I invited Hallie to my home to meet for the first time. Hours past in seconds! We chatted about her upcoming wedding to her Bobby, her amazing work as a teacher, and life in general. When she left I think we even hugged! Later she phoned to tell me I was the only photographer she wanted to be at her side to capture the story of their wedding, I felt honored! Then excited! Then we began to plan.

It was important for Hallie and Bobby to invite their guests and family into the special relationship they had with each other. We made a video full of little stories from their relationship to play at the reception instead of a slide show. Her mother helped Hallie put on her dress to have just a little alone time with her daughter. Her sister and best friend wished her well right before she walked down the isle. Her father gave a speech that made both of his daughters cry. Bobby's family beamed as they congregated before the ceremony holding back the happy tears that soon flowed while taking family photos. His father had a private chat with his son minutes before they entered the church. Bobby's grooms men offered handshakes, were quick with jokes so excited to be apart of this day.

Rob and I captured Joy, Tears, Laughter, Nervousness, Relief, and lots and lots of LOVE that day. It is our hope that we told a true story of love, family and of a couple that is truly amazing!

Rob and I have had a whirl-wind last few weeks! Europe was PERFECT, AMAZING, MEMORABLE, EXCITING, RELAXING, BREATHTAKING, and to say the very least SPECIAL!

A Little Girl's Dream: Becoming a Cultured Woman

When I was 12 years old I remember walking downstairs from my little blue bedroom to the kitchen where my mother was making dinner. I sat down at the table and said, "Mom when I grow up I am going to be a cultured woman." She stopped what she was doing and with a smile asked me how one becomes a "Cultured Woman". I very seriously explained there were 3 steps that I KNEW to be true just from observation. "First, I have to eat ice cream out of a pint container, Mom. Cultured women don't share out of a gallon of ice cream", I simply stated. Second I explained how I would have to make sure I went to New York City...... because it is New York City! Lastly, nearly out of breath because I was talking so fast and with great passion for a 12 year old I exclaimed, " Mom, I HAVE to go to Paris and drink a cup of coffee at a corner cafe and read a newspaper!" My Mom, who had stopped by this time making dinner and had pulled up a seat to listen to her daughter's dream, in a very matter of fact way said, "Those are all very important things to do to become a cultured woman."

That summer I turned 13 and after all of my gifts were opened my mom walked into the room with a spoon and a pint of ice cream that probably cost the same as a gallon for the family. Two weeks after I met my husband I boarded a train with my friends and stayed at the YWCA for 5 day in New York City. On our wedding day my Rob at the end of his vows to me squeezed my hand and with a shaky voice said, "I know when we are in France, drinking coffee at a little corner cafe that I will be apart of living your dream and making your dreams happen!"

This lucky girl has been supported by so many people to pursue her dreams, no matter how silly or childish, and I love everyone in my life for that! I always knew I wanted to see the world, experience new cultures, live in a way that I would have no regrets. I am happy to announce that by the end of April I WILL be a cultured woman! With my husband by my side we will be taking a dream trip that will end in Paris!

"Why so sudden", you ask! Well, Yesterday I was giving the amazing opportunity to shoot with Crash Taylor in Italy. Crash has been rated the 1# wedding photographer in the UK and it has been mentioned he may be the wedding photographer for the royal wedding coming up! I couldn't pass up such an opportunity to learn for such a great artist, so Europe here we come!

I feel so blessed to be doing what I love! I feel everything happens for a reason! Now I know why it has taken me over half of my life to live this dream. I am right where I am supposed to be, doing what I am supposed to be doing! I am living a life without regrets! I am excited for what life has in store for me!

Alex and Aimee

A Mexico Wedding Week

I should have shown up to Mexico with a big bow on my head! This was the first time I was not hired by the bride and groom but by the bride's best friend as a wedding gift! Her friend is a fellow photographer that I have had the opportunity to work with before so hanging out with her for a week in the sun and sand of Mexico was a nice perk!

Destination weddings often mean that I am unable to meet with the bride and groom face to face until I arrive so the first thing we did was an engagement shoot to get comfy with each other. Aimee and Alex were so excited to be getting married the next day I don't think they even realized I was there! So super sweet and cute together I knew this week was going to be a blast to shoot!

The wedding was everything a couple could ask for on the beach...no wind, not a cloud in the sky, and plenty of tearing on-lookers! Yes, their vows were so touching even the sun-bathers were brought to tears! As high school sweet hearts Aimee and Alex have grown up together, they have supported each other threw the loss of a parent, pursuing their degrees and finding themselves in each other. Being together for so long made all of the speeches sweeter, the guests all part of the family and the day a dream come true!

After the vows were said, the cake was cut and the dancing was done we just couldn't pass up the opportunity to take more photos on this gorgeous resort! The next day after breakfast in bed we met seaside for some amazing Rock the Dress fun! New hair, no shoes and a little surf made these photos a beautiful addition to already stunning Mexico moments!

A Wintery Rock the Dress!

Sarah had a perfect wedding day for photos. Her reception was on a golf course complete with willows, a pond and even a windmill! The picture below is one of my favorites from her wedding day. However after getting to know Sarah for over a year she is quite a fashionista! We both have an affinity for outerwear and accessories so it was no surprise when for her Rock The Dress session she wanted bold, fashion forward and edgy!

We used different accessories, backs of buildings and under over-passes! The result are some of my favorite pics to date! Enjoy!

Adnan + Amy

A Milwaukee Wedding

Amy and Adnan are two of the most down to earth and compassionate people so I was so excited when they invited me to capture the story of their wedding day!

It was going to be a day filled with traditions from two cultures, two countries, and two religions. Amy had her white wedding dress, something blue and three tier white cake all traditional American wedding staples. Adnan's family stole her shoe then later bought it back for quite a pretty penny! That was not the only Bosnian wedding tradition they shared..... they brought the most amazing Bosnian cakes!

During the ceremony a member from Amy and then Adnan's family read the same love passage in their native language. The ceremony and the day was all about bringing two people together that were meant to be Husband and Wife!

A Milwaukee Wedding

When I first met Abby and Bryan he was all business and she was rather shy. During the engagement session Bryan and I bantered back and forth about this and that while Abby just smiled and laughed at us both. Bryan has always seemed the more outgoing of the two, on the wedding day however Abby stole the show! She looked stunning in a classic look complete down to her in hair style. Bryan couldn't help himself when he saw her for the first time. He embraced her, looked at her, kissed her, looked at her, laughed, looked at her, cried, looked at her!

These two are meant to be together.... a perfect pair!

This Perfect Pair planned a perfect day filled with sweet singing, memorable speeches, and the best tasting cake ever!

Kim and Matt are the type of people that you instantly feel like you have been friends with your whole life. We had dinner with them in Cedar Creek after the engagement session an chatted all things wedding. Getting to know them and hearing their ideas for the wedding was such a pleasure. We were so excited to get the day started and Kim and Matt did not disappoint! Kim was stunning in her form fitting custom wedding gown. Matt was the picture of calm, joking around with his friends and quickly becoming the wedding coordinator. Their day flew by, filed with fun and special moments, even a few happy tears.

Mary + Paul+ Cole + Maggie= A Great Wedding Day!

Mary and Paul had a beautiful autumn day for their wedding! They vowed to be there for each other in good and bad with their touching personal words. They are a family now and so Little Maggie and Big Boy Cole where very much apart of every moment of this celebration. Miss Maggie will have memories of how pretty her mom looked in her cocktail length dress. Cole carried his stuffed animal "groomsmen" and smiled great for all of the boring family photos! It was great to spend some times with such a loving new family as Rob and I get closer everyday to starting our own family. They are great role models to us and I know their children will always look to them as a guide for a happy marriage!

A Milwaukee Wedding

The weather was touch and go a couple of weekends ago when Michelle and Mark tied the knot! The clouds were dark, and filled with rain drops. However, Michelle wasn't nervous at all about that, she was concentrating on all of the steps their ceremony had in order to make them man and wife. At the same time, Mark waited with a HUGE smile on his face to see his high school sweetheart walk toward him so they could say their vows. From the moment of their first kiss on, I don't think an earthquake could have disrupted their day, after all, they were married..... and it was good!

Fall is the Season of L.O.V.E.

It seems like every other day I have been meeting with couples to discuss wedding details, or photograph their special bond during engagement sessions! How awesome is my life!

I just want you to meet a few of the couples I have been closely working with lately.......

Terra+ Andrew

They made a day of their engagement session with me, after driving the two hours to milwaukee, I had to make sure that it was a great time! We walked around Lake Park and had plenty of time to chat about the big day, and I mean BIG day! They have so many friends and family they just can't be without on their wedding day the guest list might just break 400! It is easy to see why so many people would feel close to this incredibly fun loving and caring couple. After spending that afternoon together we talked about everything from wedding plans to "The Packers"! They already feel like old friends!

Hallie + Bobby

When Hallie came for her interview with me a few months back it instantly felt like we were long lost friends. We talked about everything, not just wedding stuff, and after our bellies ached from laughing and we saw three hours had slipped by we knew we would have a blast on their wedding day together! For how comfortable we were just talking, Hallie admitted she was a little shy in front of the camera. That is when Bobby came to her rescue! He was all about pulling her tight, telling her stories and getting her to laugh! At one point I believe he even danced for her, oh wait, I asked him to do that! ; )

I can't wait to have more fun with these two on their wedding day and be the witness of their support, love, and silliness!

Maria + Cody

"Hi, I am Maria and my fiance Cody can't stop talking about you, he say's your the best!"

I believe I was in the middle of taking some photographs of the petit fours at a wedding when Maria introduced herself to me. Cody was a groomsmen and apparently loved hanging out with Rob and I so much that he wanted an encore for his wedding! I was more than excited! Cody and Maria are so much fun to hang out with! At their engagement session their complete trust in my vision for their photos lead them into fields, up hillsides, and there was even an attempt to cross a creek! The pictures say it all, no matter where we were they were all smiles and having a blast! I expect their wedding day to be filled with great love, great memories, and great images!

Tie The Knot

Beautiful Eggplant purple made this stunning fall wedding pop! The couple made it special! The guests added the sweet and silly! When everything comes together as it should, as you planned for all of those months, you have a wedding as memorable as Stephanie and Ryan.

From the moment they saw each other early in the day, they held hands, stole glances, and made each other laugh. They were excited! Today they would marry the person that knows them best. Both Stephanie and Ryan share a love for giving back, and when you live life with such care it shows in the people around you. Table after table pulled me aside to tell me how wonderful this couple is, I agree!

Tiffany + Jacob

A Milwaukee Engagement

We had such a blast on our walk of the 3rd Ward a few mornings ago. We chatted like old friends, discussing wedding details, ideas and oddly "fancy jeans". We met at Tiffany's sister's wedding a little more than a month ago and Jacob told Tiffany by the end of the day, we would be their wedding photographers!

So now Rob and I get to hang out with this wonderful family for yet another daughter's wedding, we can't tell you how excited we are! They are so warm, laid back, and fun loving.

Tiffany and Jacob are an amazing couple and I know from there playful and caring relationship they will make a wonderful married couple!

Pete + Kelly

A Marrage

I have said it before and I will probably say it hundreds more times, I have the best clients! They were surronded by people that are mirrors of themselves. Rob and I met person after person that was warm, friendly and a little sassy, just like Kelly and Pete. They are both advocates for animal rights and have adopted 9 cats and 3 dogs! They love their fur-babies so much they dedicated a table to each pet! Rob and I were at a table of a little pug in a wheel chair, so cute!

My favorite part of their wedding were the readings during their ceremony! They had the passage below read from the "Velveteen Rabbit" and it was perfect! Not only did they read from that great story but also from, "Oh, The Places You'll Go!" I wish I would have been this creative at my wedding!

The Velveteen Rabbit

The Skin Horse had lived longer in the nursery than any of the others. He was so old that his brown coat was bald in patches and showed the seams underneath, and most of the hairs in his tail had been pulled out to string bead necklaces. He was wise, for he had seen a long succession of mechanical toys arrive to boast and swagger, and by-and-by break their mainsprings and pass away, and he knew that they were only toys, and would never turn into anything else. For nursery magic is very strange and wonderful, and only those playthings that are old and wise and experienced like the Skin Horse understand all about it.

"What is REAL?" asked the Rabbit one day, when they were lying side by side near the nursery fender, before Nana came to tidy the room. "Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?"

"Real isn't how you are made," said the Skin Horse. "It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real."

"Does it hurt?" asked the Rabbit.

"Sometimes," said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. "When you are Real you don't mind being hurt."

"Does it happen all at once, like being wound up," he asked, "or bit by bit?"

"It doesn't happen all at once," said the Skin Horse. "You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."

"I suppose you are real?" said the Rabbit. And then he wished he had not said it, for he thought the Skin Horse might be sensitive.

But the Skin Horse only smiled.

Rock the Dress: Family Style

I remember my wedding day like it was yesterday. I remember eating burnt french toast (my favorite breakfast) with my Mom and bestie Wendy at a corner cafe. I remember hearing someone whisper, "Look, there she goes", as I started to shake from crying during my Dad's speech. I remember feeling gorgeous on my wedding day, and that was so cool! I had never been asked to a dance in high-school, so my wedding gown was the first and last formal gown I will ever wear! I love my dress and how it made me feel on such an amazing day! Maybe my feelings on my dress are why I LOVE LOVE LOVE it when I am asked to do a "Rock the Dress" session. These Wives get to have that feeling all over again! Better yet, they can shake it up a bit with hair, make-up, accessories, location and in this little family's case; bring the most adorable son on the planet!

A Milwaukee Wedding

Love was in the air, emotions were high! A Father lovingly walked his daughter toward her husband. The speeches made everyone laugh and cry, later the dance floor was packed and movin! These are a few of my favorite things at a wedding! Shane and Amy had them all and then some little special moments of their very own!

I am truly blessed to be able to witness every weekend best friends marring each other. Center Pieces on a Budget

I came into work the other day and Sadie was super excited to show me her creation from the night before. I was amazed how cute these flower arrangements were and then flabergasted on how much they ended up costing. We then got into a conversation about wedding table centerpieces and how this would be perfect for the bride on a budget.

*6.99 for flower bouquet @ pick n save

*1.00 for two candlestick holders @ Target

*50 cents for vases @ a local garage sale

So ladies if you are looking for a shabby yet very chic and super simple centerpiece to make, look no further then your local grocery store and rummage sale. Choose flowers in your wedding's color pallet and go with all white, all glass, or all tin containers. The mix n match of items will still look put together and cohesive. It took Sadie 5 minutes a centerpiece to make these and they graced our office for at least a week.

I met Lindsey threw a close friend that we share. We were out for cocktails when my friend introduced me and told her what I did for a living. Little did I know that she was newly engaged and I was on an interview! I didn't have to worry because we hit it off smashingly! Since the first time we have met, not only has she become my bride, but she has seen me sob at sad movies and chat about my soon to be family. My Baby!

It is true, I am one of those people that loves my dog like a child! She gets ice cream at the drive-thru, she sleeps on my feet while I am editing images, we go for a W.A.L.K. everyday. If you have been to the office recently you have heard her barking in protest from the other room, she just thinks everyone is here for her! Funny thing is, for all of the love that I have for her, I never really took a photo of her with my pro gear. So today after spending the morning taking fabulous Flaunt photos, I decide it was Cinder's turn to be a model!

I called her to me and asked her to sit on the backdrop. She sat at the edge. I called her again. She laid down...... at the edge. I called her again. She ever so slowly army crawled her way to me, ears pinned back, sad eyes on me. When she finally reached me she showered my arm with kisses. You see, she is such a good dog! I had caught her sleeping on the backdrops a couple of times and told her they were not for her. She tried to remind me but I was insistent so as you can see, although she put up with the photo session she was not amused!

I guess the two of us will go back to what we know..... she is laying on my feet as I post this.

Jamie and Dana Tie the Knot!

On a beautiful sunny day, two best friends said their vows to one another to become man and wife. Jamie was so excited she teared up just thinking about putting on her dress! She had thought about this day many times since she had met Dana. She had put a lot of thought into all of the details, large and small. They recognized passed loved ones with a locket of ashes in her roses and a favorite snack waiting on a chair during the ceremony. All of their work did not go unnoticed, their wedding was breathtaking! I am sure that every guest felt honored to be invited to such a beautiful event!

Kayla and Gus

Jessica and Ben's Wedding

Wonderfully unique and totally a refection of their personalities, Ben and Jessica's wedding day was filled with little personal touches. Ben proudly rocked is buttercup colored bow-tie. Jessica looked stunning in her Jasmine dress and soft flowing curls.

My favorite moment was them seeing each before the ceremony! Jessica walked up behind Ben, ready to tap his shoulder and see him for the first time. Ben waited to be turned around, already with a huge smile on his face. Then the moment came when they saw each other, their joy and excitement was moving! Smiles somehow managed to get wider, they embraced and talked, getting ready to become man and wife, together.

It was a real pleasure to get to know this couple over the last few months and even more fun to be a part of such a special day in their lives!

Allison and Eric Engagement

A few days ago I took a couple of hours to get out of the office and from behind my desk. After a nice drive to Carthage College in perfect weather, I was able to hang out with Allison and Eric's engagement photo-shoot. Carthage is where their relationship blossomed and the entire time I was taking photos of them they were pointing out places that brought back memories. Jason and Michele's Wedding!

It was such a wonderful experience to see a good friend of mine get married. Michele is one of the sweetest people that I have ever met and I'm so happy that she found Jason to spend the rest of her life with. Jason could barely keep it together as Michele walked with her dad down the aisle and the same for her as they said their vows. One can truly see it on their faces, how much they truly love each other.

Michele and Jason are definitely a couple that likes to have a great time and their wedding reflected that to a tee. It was a wedding of style, elegance, and grace but then guests enjoyed lawn games and the driving range during the cocktail hour. I mean, how cool is that?!?!

Not only did I get to see Michele and Jason get married; I also got to see Sadie and Rob capture all the special moments with their cameras. Every day at work I get to see the artwork that Sadie and Rob create, so it was fun to actually see how that artwork is created at a wedding. They put so much effort into making not only the bride, groom, bridal party, and parents comfortable, but they love to interact with the guests as well so they can truly capture how much fun they are having.

One of the greatest blessing about my business is, I become so close with my couples before the wedding! Every weekend is like going to a great friends wedding and witnessing them become man and wife. This wedding was no different, as soon as Hayley saw me enter the room her face lit up and she rushed to give me a hug!

From that moment to all of the mini moments this couple allow me to witness they were excited, happy and bursting with love! I can only hope that our pictures reflect a fraction of the joy Rob and I saw on each persons face that are lucky enough to call these two, "Friends"!

Leah and Wayne are such a calm and comfy couple! Both the Bride and Groom were all smiles, joking and ready to get the day started when Rob and I arrived at the church. I short time later Wayne took his place at the end of the isle, and as he saw Leah for the first time he gave a little smile (for the camera), then when he thought I wasn't looking the real smile happened! Beaming from ear to ear he watched his bride walk toward him with her own smile aimed just at him!

Leah and Dylan's Engagement

I met Leah about 4 years ago just as I was getting started as a wedding photographer. She happened to be a bridesmaid at one of the weddings I photographed that summer, so I was so excited when she wanted Rob and I to be a part of her big day this year!

Leah and Dylan met and quickly realized they were perfect for each other! When it came time to pop the question he knew there was someone he had to talk to about his feelings for Leah. Dylan wrote a note to Leah's son explaining how much he loved his mom and him and would always be there for them both. He might not understand exactly what it means for his mom to be getting married right now but I am sure with this great couple as parents that little boy will understand what if means to love!

First Wedding of the Season!

Rob and I had a great time at Ashley and Andy's wedding today! They are young, fun and so full of love for each other! Ashley would get the biggest smile on her face and giggle just a little every time you would say, "Ashley, your married!" We shot the park pictures at Frame Park on a beautiful sunny day.... if fact they couldn't have asked for better weather! We just walked the park and enjoyed the time taking photos and making memories! A good start to a great season!

RVP: How is married life going?

H & M: Married life is great! Since the wedding, it has been so nice getting settled into our lives. Every day, we learn more about each other, and every day we love each other even more. We're enjoying every minute of it!

RVP: Are you and your husband planning on doing anything special for your
first anniversary?

H & M: No plans yet for our actual anniversary day (besides eating wedding cake), but we are going to Colorado for a friend's wedding just a few days after our first anniversary. After the wedding, we're going backpacking in Rocky Mountain National Park for a few days.

RVP: Why did you choose the locations for your wedding ceremony & reception?

H & M: When Mike & I announced our engagement to my family, my aunts in particular were hysterical with excitement. Amidst the buzz and chatter about the news, my Aunt Sylvia came up with the idea of having the wedding in their garden. Their garden is absolutely AMAZING in the summer and nestled in the woods...and being the outdoorsy types that we are, the offer was absolutely perfect for us. We are particularly close with Sylvia & Vern, and having the ceremony in nature just fit us to a tee.

We chose the Holiday Inn for the reception because of it's close proximity to Mt. Horeb. It also offered a good price for the services along with a lot of extra "bonuses" for having a Friday wedding, such as a free champagne toast and free rooms for the couple's parents.

RVP: What was your favorite moment or event from your wedding day?

H & M: My favorite moment was walking down the aisle, being escorted in turn by each of my three uncles, and seeing Mike at the end of it. It was just perfect!

Mike's favorite moment was when I first arrived at the altar...I just couldn't wait to give him a hug & kiss. However, for a moment, i forgot that I couldn't, so I launched toward him as if to give him a kiss, realized what i was doing, and stepped back. That made for a good laugh, and the minister remarked on how enthusiastic we were about getting married! :)

RVP: What part of your wedding were you happily surprised by?

H & M: I was so happy about how smoothly everything went! We had such a great team of friends and family that helped out, and we didn't have to worry about a thing! We really got to sit back and enjoy it! Also, the trolley turned out to be nice, both as transportation and as a backdrop for some great pictures!

RVP: Is there anything you would do differently?

H & M: I can't think of a single thing! :)

RVP: Who was your favorite vendor? Other than RVP of course! :) (Flowers,
videographer, dj, etc.)

H & M: Planning a Wisconsin wedding from Baltimore posed lots of logistical challenges, but working with Ellie on the flowers made it so easy and fun. She had so many great ideas, but was willing to listen and incorporate ideas that I had. The flowers turned out so beautifully!!! Since our wedding was in a garden, it was important to me to have gorgeous flowers that reflected the beauty of our surroundings. Ellie was truly a joy to work with!

RVP: Any tips for getting the most out of your wedding pics?

H & M: Relax, and let Sadie do her thing! :) It didn't take long before I didn't even notice she was there, which really made for some gorgeous, natural shots. Also, I have no regrets about hiring Sadie's intern, Emily, as our second photographer. I feel like we got a much more comprehensive portrayal of our special day!

RVP: Any advice for brides and grooms getting married this summer?

H & M: Don't stress about the small details! Your wedding is just one day...enjoy every moment of the process, but always look ahead to nuturing a happy, healthy marriage.

Photo season is right around the corner, so I am writing a personal blog post to share with you a bit about my life, my inspirations and why I chose photography.

Five years ago I was working as a surgical tech, you know the person that passes the scalpel, and found that I was a part of everyone's worst day. I thought doing something that would help people would make me feel good, give me purpose... instead I shared in their hurt and fear. One day I came home to a camera on my counter and a husband that told me he made me a website. "Rose View Photography", he said, "because you look at loved ones through rose-colored glasses!" I left my job and haven't looked back, why would I, I am now part of everyone's BEST days! The Brides that I witnessed tearfully say their vows are now letting me into their snuggle moments with little bundles of joy! I get to see women change right in front of my lens during a Boudoir session, for the first time believing they are beautiful! I am still the emotional person I have always been! Only this time when I share in emotions, they are the kind that lift me, making me shoot better, and strive to learn more! Thank you for allowing me to share in your moments they have meant the world to me!

I have learned so much more than photography by being a photographer! I have learned I have so much love to give...I don't think Rob can handle it alone! :) So this will be our last season with out little-ones of our own! Rob and I will be parents this November to a little boy and girl that might not have seen a lot of love in their lives, but we hope to turn that around! I can't wait to see where this new adventure will take us! I hope as parents we will be able to instill a pay-it-forward drive in our children! I know I wouldn't be where I am today without the support of those around me and a desire to help lift others through photography!

I am quite certain that our children will be two of the most photographed kids on the planet! I know everyone says that, but seriously, they will! I have been following the photographer, Amy Wenzel for her amazing images of children and just learned that she is hosting a workshop in our area! (squeals with excitement!) I hope I have a chance to attend! Amy is an inspiration in how she manages her photography business and life. I am inspired by the way she is able to capture the beauty in simple moments! I can't wait to meet her, become a Sadie Sponge and continue taking steps everyday to apply the new inspirations to my own photography voice!

Beauty Week; Tanning

It's Beauty Week!

What are your thoughts on tanning these days? I have many! I used a tanning bed in high school to get tan for homecoming and didn't like how I had two huge white patches on my shoulder blades from it. So then I tried the stand-up tanning booth for prom and I really liked my results. It's always in the back of my mind that my mom has a history of skin cancer so I have only used the tanning booth a few times since. Then the mystic tan became popular! The tanning salon that I went to a few times began to offer mystic tanning so I tried it out for a friends wedding. I liked it, except my hands and feet looked ridiculous! I put the lotion type product on my hands and feet like I was supposed to, but they turned out very orange and patchy. I tried it again a year later with some advice from a friend, and my hands and feet still turned out wrong. So if you are thinking about mystic tan, make sure you try it out a few times before your wedding or photo shoot so that you can practice getting your hands and feet right. One of my bridesmaids used it for my wedding and it was beautiful so maybe it's just me! Because my lack of luck with mystic tanning, I decided that I was going to use the stand-up tanning booth one last time for my wedding and honeymoon. Of course the results were great but was it totally worth it? I wish I had known more about self tanning.

I found out the other day that Sadie self tanned for her wedding and she told me all about how she did it. She started 2 weeks before her wedding day and it's sounds like the key to self tanning is exfoliating or "getting rid of dead skin". Week one was dedicated towards exfoliating. Week two was the week before her wedding and she applied Clinique Self Tanner everyday starting with her legs and working her way up to her face; rubbing the product in until it was dry. She recommends not using as much on your knees and elbows. Also make sure that you rub the product well into your hair-line and on/ around your ears. It's a good idea to wash your hands well after you apply everyday, especially under the nails. In between applications, if you see streaking, exfoliate the areas before your next application. Two days before her wedding day she stopped applying the concentrated Clinique tanner and used Jergens "Natural Glow" Lotion to maintain the color she had already achieved. The day of her wedding day, she only applied a scented lotion. Since she washed the product off her hands everyday, she used a make-up brush and applied a little powder to the top of her hands to insure a natural looking blend. She was extremely happy with the results!

Lastly, it might be a good idea to try these techniques out months before your wedding to see how they look and so that you can practice!
